Francesco
On The Road To Assisi
Francesco – On The Road to Assisi is a creative journey through the landscapes and stories of Umbria, Italy, centred on the city of Assisi. Drawing inspiration from The Little Flowers — reimagined through original songs — participants explore themes of inclusivity, environmental awareness, and community through music, drama, and storytelling.
At its heart, Francesco – The Road to Assisi is about connection: discovering how art can help us engage with place, history, and the natural world, and how shared creative experience can inspire empathy and awareness.
Approach
This project combines travel, creative practice, and reflection. Participants visit key sites in and around Assisi, using them as settings for exploration and performance. Through song, drama, and collaborative storytelling, the group brings the tales of The Little Flowers to life — interpreting them as human, poetic stories that speak to universal ideas of kindness, cooperation, and respect for the environment.
Sessions include:
• Visits to Assisi and surrounding Umbrian landscapes
• Dramatisations and musical interpretations of The Little Flowers
• Creative exercises exploring inclusion, care, and ecological awareness
• Group discussions connecting past and present values
• Development of a collective performance inspired by the journey
The structure is adaptable — the project can be shaped to fit different timeframes (from short residencies to week-long itineraries) and participant needs.
