Daniel Zappi is a singer, composer, actor, director, and theatre maker working across theatre, film, television, and international festivals. His work integrates music, text and performance, with a focus on interdisciplinary storytelling.
His original piece Shakespeare in Song, an original music-theatre project has toured venues and festivals including the Verona Shakespeare Fringe Festival, the Volterra International Theatre Festival, The English Theatre Hamburg, The Renaissance Festival of Opočno and Písecká Brána in Prague.
His directing work includes The Tempest (2024, Divadlo Komedie, Prague), Figlie di Coro (2023, Divadlo Semafor, Prague), for which he also wrote the text, Our Town (2021, Divadlo Semafor, Prague) and original musical adaptations of Pinocchio (2020–22) and The Jungle Book (2018) at Divadlo Hybernia in Prague. As a composer, he has created music for a number of productions including Shakespeare in Italy and The Food of Love (Teatro Filodrammatici, Milan), Thrice Born in Greatness (British Consulate, Venice), the latter shows all having been produced by J Productions Milan.
A graduate of the Oxford School of Drama, his screen work includes the recurring character Ivor in Carnival Row (Amazon Prime, Season 2, directed by Wendey Stanzler, Thor Freudenthal, Julian Holmes and Andy Goddard), as well as Das Boot (Sky, directed by Rick Ostermann), Patriot (Amazon Prime, directed by Steven Conrad), Borg vs McEnroe (directed by Janus Metz Pedersen), and The Catcher Was a Spy (directed by Ben Lewin).
His stage work spans over two decades across the UK and Italy, including roles such as Shylock (The Merchant of Venice), Hippolytus (Phaedra’s Love), and George Gibbs (Our Town), with performances at venues including Hampstead Theatre, Teatro Filodrammatici, and the Burton Taylor Studio.
Alongside his performance work, he has recorded four albums of original music, collaborated with artists including Tom E. Morrison, Alessandro Galdieri, and Daniel Gildenlöw, and composed for commercial campaigns (s.Oliver) and video games such as Daymare: 1998. He was a finalist on Česko Slovensko má talent (2019) and recently performed as Troubadour Michal in the official live concert of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II with the Brno Philharmonic at the O2 Universum in Prague.
Daniel is also very committed to his work as a drama and music pedagogue, working with people of all ages and background, building community and helping them to thrive through the performing arts.
