Drama in the Classroom

Drama in the Classroom is a professional development workshop for teachers that explores how drama techniques can transform learning, communication, and engagement. Through a series of practical, reflective, and playful exercises, participants experience first-hand how the tools of theatre — voice, movement, imagination, and interaction — can deepen understanding, build confidence, and inspire both learners and educators.

At its heart, Drama in the Classroom is not about acting, but about using the principles of drama — presence, empathy, storytelling, and active participation — to create a more dynamic, responsive, and human classroom.

Approach

This hands-on course combines drama-based pedagogy with guided reflection and collaboration. Participants move between active exploration and discussion, discovering how drama can be integrated across subjects and adapted to different age groups and learning environments.

Sessions include:
• Practical theatre games and exercises that enhance classroom presence and communication
• Exploring storytelling and role-play as tools for learning across disciplines
• Techniques for encouraging participation and creative risk-taking among students
• Improvisation and embodiment as pathways to empathy and emotional intelligence
• Reflection and discussion connecting creative methods to curriculum goals

The programme is adaptable in format and scope — suitable for half-day introductions, two- or three-day intensives, or multi-session courses tailored to a school’s specific needs.

“To say that the three-day course for teachers with Daniel was a blast is an understatement. Sure, I had high expectations, especially after hearing glowing reviews from colleagues who had trained with Daniel before. And yes, I was hoping to pick up a few drama techniques to use in my English language classroom. But what I got was so much more than just a professional development event. The course not only exceeded my expectations but also became a wonderful team-building experience for the whole teaching staff at my school. On a deeper personal level, it had a transformative effect on me. After the course, I felt truly inspired and excited to experiment with drama in my lessons. Even more importantly, I felt I had reconnected with the inner creative energy and playfulness that can so easily slip away after years of teaching. It was incredibly liberating, and, let’s be honest, a lot of fun. Daniel was nothing short of incredible. He was supportive and gentle, yet you could tell straight away he knew exactly what he was doing. What really stood out was his ability to tailor activities perfectly to suit the group and encourage each of us to reflect on our learning and how we could apply it in our teaching. His sensitivity, combined with an assertive leadership style, gave everyone a sense of calm and safety throughout the process. Under his guidance, we even managed to stage a play and perform it in front of an audience! How cool is that? Every part of the training was thoughtfully designed to build up to that final performance, preparing us step by step. And the best part? Even though we were a group of seasoned teachers who felt shy at first and did not think drama was our thing, we ended up as excited as little children on stage, embracing the chance to be a bit silly and have fun. With Daniel, you are not just attending a training course; you are starting a journey that empowers both you and your learners.”
